It's NOT impossible if you buy used... especially if the seller is somewhat ignorant.



There are tons of "student" basses out there for less than $2000, and one of these may well suit your purposes. The secret lies in finding them.



Using your search engine of choice, use the words "double bass" and that will eliminate the acoustic bass GUITARS which are nothing like an upright. Here's an example:

No where. A cheap instrument will have cheap quality.







But, pawn shops often have low-quality instruments prettt cheap. Check there, or eBay.
