Question:
Will stripping hurt my future career?

I am thinking about working at a strip club to earn more money. I am a college student at a private prestigious university and as is typical with college students, I'm always broke. I work two part-time jobs but it's just not enough money. The only thing keeping me from running to auditions right now is how being a stripper would impact my future career.

Have you ever heard of anyone being rejected from a job for having been a stripper when they were younger? Is that a strike against you in background checks? Do employers really background check that thoroughly? Does that actually happen, or is it just rumor because people think stripping is trashy?

Since you are considering the answer, it seems you think it might.

It is not something that can be hidden as soon as you quit. Someone will remember you. Someone will find a photo. Cameras are everywhere.

Is it something that you will let your friends and family know about?

There are so many questions.

If you have doubts, don't do it.

At least go visit the club where you would be stripping and see what goes on.

It can actually hurt any future career. If in the future it is found out by colleagues that the girl once was a stripper, they will most likely lose respect. The only career it could be good for is if someone wants to be a professional stripper, then it is experience! But it's really not a good idea all around.

Do it and you can never take it away. It will haunt you for the rest of your life. It sounds like you don't need more money but rather you need to become more responsible with it.

You will NEVER have enough money even if you do this.

You WILL lose job opportunities with quality work places and you WILL lose quality relationships with quality people.

Or you will find that stripping makes so much money that you will continue on to prostitution and burn out at 30 when your body goes to hell and at that time you will not have any quality friends, any skills, any life, or anything else. Then what???

Your decision........

The simple answer is yes. The longer, more realistic answer is It really depends on if you get caught up in the "lifestyle" or not. And if you are far enough away from home that no one there really knows you as someone who knows someone who knows you. If yu want some tips real ones, here you go. Read carefully and think long and hard about it.

I think strippers are some of the coolest, most real people out there, but mainstream society doesn't always agree. However, I am certain, more women are dancing now because they NEED a job because of this economy. Some go to Nevada to become legal sex workers. Prostitution is legal in that state outside of Las Vegas city limits. It is a fact in this age and time , some women do that. But that is not you.

You are in the very advantageous position of being a young woman getting a college degree and with options.

There are ways around it. Always use a stage name. Never a real one.

If you can adopt some kind of quirk that you don't have in real life to accompany your stage name to creat a character: fake tattoo in the same place all the time, fake beauty mark, dyed hair/wigs, fake glasses. Something they remember but something you won't have on in your non stripping life to throw them off , that wouldn't hurt to reduce the chance of recognition.

Have a back story for your character. One that is credible, realistic and CONSISTENT. And simple so you can remember it all. Pick answers similar to what you would give. Be like an actor who is best when they play a character that is very much like them in real life anyways. If anyone asks questions, never answer real questions with real answers if you don't have to. "Where are you from?" "On, around." "Back east." Always keep it light , change the subject and talk about THEM to deflect attention away from YOU. Always be CONSISTENT in your disguise. You forget one day to put your beauty mark on , an observant co worker or customer will possibly remember it. Be consistent. Have a disguise CHECKLIST before you go so you never forget. Think of it as part of show biz. If you have any distinctive real qurks, like piercings , scars, whathave you, remove them or use body makeup. Or costuming to cover it up. The less real you they see and know, the less chances of you being recognized.

NEVER EVER EVER date a customer, no matter how sweet, nice, rich, whatever they are. NEVER go home with one.

Never have a social life with them. If they ask, turn them off politely. Oh, I'm sorry, I have two kids and a hubby. Oh I'm sorry I'm engaged. Have a b/f. Whatever you do , pick one line. Stick with it. Be consistent.

You are an actress when you are at work. You are someone else.

Put on your game face till the shift is over and you are home.

Be calm and unflappable. If someone does recognize you and you recognize them, act like you know them. From some other place and time they've never seen you and met you at. Throw them off. Again, you are acting and protecting yourself and your future. If they see you later, "Hey, I saw a girl who looked a lot like you. " Make a joke, blow it off. "Really? But I'm cooler then she is . Right?"

Make friends with the girls ONLY AT WORK. You want to get along, not make enemies but you don't want to be doing shots with them after work or picking up guys at clubs after you get off . When you get home, you don't hang. You are too busy or tired. Sorry.

Don't get caught up in any drama at work, whether it is with the other girls, the customers or the management/staff. It is a JOB. Show up on time, do your thing. Punch out and get out.

NEVER DRINK ON THE JOB. Even if a customer offers or co worker does. Again, you are acting. Sorry, alcoholism runs in the family. I'm allergic to alcohol. Of if a customer DOES buy you a drink and it can make you money, ask management if they would allow you to have ginger ale or a non alcoholic drink that could pass for alcohol. They might be for it, as soda and juice actually saves them money over selling real alcohol. To them, it is a business. Treat it as same.

Drinking can lead to you slipping up. Don't think you are immune to alcohol or you can "handle it". That is ego talking. Don't drink, or only drink non alcoholic beverages. Drinking leads to mistakes and potential problems. And definitely NO DRUGS. That's even worse.

You have money, guys want you, you're young and beautiful. You're in a party environmnet. Never forget: This is a JOB. PERIOD. But be nice because they are putting you through school. Don't forget that either.

SAVE your money. Just like being a waitress/server. The money can be good, fast and it is there every day. It is too easy to think you can burn it up today and hey, I'll have more tomorrow. Think long term. You are initially trying not to do this forever. Give yourself a DEFINITE deadline to the DAY. This Month/day/year is the day I quit doing it and hang up my garter belt for good (had to throw one stripper jo
