I'm a junior next year, and my band director appointed to be one of the section leaders for marching band with my friend.

I'm not exactly a charismatic person, I'm very vaugue when I explain things, I'm forgetful and clumsy, and worst of all a TON of flutes hate my guts. Last year my ENTIRE flute section in concert band hated me. That's about 6 flutes right there. They would always gossip about me saying I was a terrible flute player, that I was a loser, etc. I honestly don't know why they hated me, but I always got 1st chair and played piccolo all the time...I also believe one of them stole my piccolo last month, but I don't wanna abruptly blame those girls. They were also talking aboout how they were gonna go to sectionals one day just to get the music, and never come back until band camp as well. Otherwise, I'm fine with the other flutes; especially the sophmores.

I honestly don't know what to do know. I have a bunch of flutes that hate my guts, I'm quiet, and I'm not so much of a leader. I really wanna do this, but I'm not sure if I'm cut out.

Your band director obviously thinks you're cut out for it. If these other girls don't think you are, that's their problem. They don't want to listen to you? Tell them once that you're the boss, when they give you a problem, after that, go to the drum major and have him/her fix the problem. Other than that, just do the best you can.

Ok, I'm a section leader, so this it what I'd say.

Don't hate anyone in your section back. You have to realize that everyone hating you puts you on thin ice. This is your chance to make your section better, not for you to be a spiteful Nazi. Don't be vague when you explain things. Don't be forgetful, and don't be clumsy. Oh yeah, and be charismatic. Always know your music better than everyone else. Don't invoke competition within your section. Again, realize that you have to be careful because your section doesn't like you, so you have to be respectful, yet firm.

me too!!! it fairly is mine and my buddy's first 3 hundred and sixty 5 days of being section leaders of the clarinets. some thing that previous section leaders had completed for us became into to properly ask us and while that did no longer paintings, they advised us that it would be cool if shall we beat the trombones for taking part in. it worked and we completely whipped the trombones

You got appointed because you're the best, right? Shove it in their faces, they already know they're not as good as you and they're just jealous. Your power is innate, not assumed. You go girl!
