What song should i sing for show choir auditions?

I was thinking "Valerie" by glee, covered by naya rivera.

I'm going into 8th grade, but show choir startes in 10th grade, i know it's very early, but i really want to work on a song. I don't have a vocal coach, so i learn on my own. My parents don't know i like to sing.....which is a weird situation...

So i just practice when my parents aren't home and i am, (which is almost all the time).

I'm doing Valerie really well, but i don't know if there is enough "skill" in it.

i think i would definitely need a vocal coach for that, since some parts are very difficult and hurt my throat.

So. i would like suggestions so i can work on something. Is Valerie good?

I love Valerie by Amy Winehouse. I'm going into 8th grade too, and our showchoir only had 12 spots, so I sang Rolling in the Deep, and I got 1 of the top spots, my best friend sang Firework and she also got one of the top spots. The other top spot girl sang River Deep Mountain High. Hope I helped!

If you go for "Valerie", I would check out Amy Winehouse's version, as well as James Morrison's and The Zutons (the original) and maybe change it up so it's not quite like the Glee version (which is great, too).



I also love "Fly" by Hilary Duff. If you wanted to get a vocal coach (and therefore probably have to tell your parents about this whole singing deal), I'm sure you would nail the song and get the spot.



Ultimately, the choice is yours, you just have to weigh the pros & cons of each one.

sing Chris Tomlin's version of Amazing Grace. it's a really old song, so it definately has the choir aspect to it, but the spin he puts on it makes it a lot more interesting. not to say the original wasn't awesome :P
