Does anyone know any magic tricks for children at the hospital?

I volunteer at the hospital this summer, and I might be working in the children's ward. I was hoping to learn some magic tricks for the children, I'm currently attempting to learn how to jugle, though the key word there is attempting. I'm not asking the question of 'how did you do that?' I'm asking the question 'can I do that?' I believe in magic, even the ones that are slight of hand, I believe the true magic lies in the smiles and wonder you can bring to people's lives, that's where the true magic lies. So if anyone out there wants to help me bring some smiles to some sick children's faces, please feel free to answer to answer my question, and if you want to email me privately feel free to do so at, magick_artgirl@yahoo.ca
Thank-you to anyone who read this.

Wow! I'm impressed you'd give up part of your summer to do volunteer work. I'm sure you'll be a big hit with the children.

Here is a link to the basic "coin vanish" trick.

Kids love it when you pull a quarter out of their ear!

There are lots of books at the library about how to do magic tricks, but the best way to learn is to have someone else teach you how. If you don't know anyone who does magic, try looking in the yellow pages for magicians. Call them, explain what you're doing and ask if they'd be willing to teach some beginning tricks. Since you're doing it as a volunteer project I'd bet it'll be easy to get someone to help you. You might find you like it so much you'll want to take magic lessons. I know someone who took lessons when he was in school and then performed at children's birthday parties to help put himself through college.

Here's a juggling hint: Use scarves. They hang in the air longer and give you a chance to catch them.

Thanks for sharing your sunshine with children this summer!

I'm proud of you. Volunteering at the hospital this summer, that's nice of you.

Card tricks can be interesting and not too hard to learn. I found a couple "how to" videos on YouTube that showed how to do simple magic tricks.

I usually show card tricks to the kids I babysit, and they like them a lot.

Sorry I couldn't help too much, I'm really no good at magic.

Good luck, I'm sure they'll love you!

Yeah, you put a coin in the center of a cloth napkin or wash cloth and a piece of tape in one corner. Then you fold up the napkin, the corner with the tape hitting the coin first, and say some magic words. Then you unfold it and pick up the corner with the coin- Instant Magic Disappearing Coin!
