I need a new guitar, either acoustic or electric, and I don't just want a les Paul, I want something unique that will be really flashy for gigs. I'vE looked at travel guitars like the voyage-air, and also guitars like the stratacoustic. My price range is ~400-500$ P.S flashy could also be something like a bright paint job like bright yellow or green.

Not really clear what you mean by "flashy." I don't know what kind of band you're in or what kind of look you want.

You could go for a pointy heavy-metal kind of thing with a V body shape, an Explorer, or something like a Dean Razorback.

There's also Gretch's Bo Diddley signature which is definitely "different" - http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/gretsch-guitars-g5810-bo-diddley-signature-electric-guitar/520003000005000 .

A few others, just browsing around Musician's Friend: The ibanez halberd (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ibanez-xh300-halberd-electric-guitar)

BC Rich Mockingbird (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/b.c.-rich-special-x-mockingbird-electric-guitar/584453005410003?condition=used#used)

Or how about a hollowbody? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ibanez-afs80t-hollowbody-electric-guitar

Finally, one last thought - if you're gigging, and can save up some more money, you can order a custom Carvin. Great guitars and you can get whatever finish you want. But you'll need at least $800-900 for one, or more with the more expensive finishes and features. http://www.carvinguitars.com/customshop/

Sean, it sounds like you are looking for something that represents 'you', and so I would say to dress up what you already have and save the money until you can purchase what you really want/need! The thing with flash is that you will probably get tired of it at some point, and will want something else. Nothing wrong with that, at all. Use the money for 'sound', because a unique sound will take you a lot farther than a unique look.

Painter's tape and a can of spray paint sounds like it'd be your friend. Cheaper, better sounding, and flashier than anything you're going to find in a store.

Maybe you could even repaint a nicer guitar properly.

As long as you like the guitar who cares what it looks like? My guitar is $199.00 it's black and I put $9.00 neon colored strings on and bam it's cool and I get complements on it. The next guitar I will buy will not be based on flash but based on performance because weather your playing for yourself or a crowd how well you play and how good the guitar sounds is what really matters. Flash is just meh.
