Is this for gigging/jamming with others or playing at home? If it's for home 75 watts is way too much to get a decent sound in a bedroom or whatever. My answer may not help you at all since I despise modeling amps. If you are playing at home I'd get a Fender Super Champ XD for the tube tone. If gigging I would personally take the Fender Frontman 212R over either of the amps you mentioned. To me the effects on the Spider and Vypyr are just cheesy sounding. Sure you have tons of effects but they all suck to my ear. I'm not recommending these amps because I play Fender amps, I do not, I play Mesa Boogie, but I still think these are your best sounding amps in this price range.

Well, I returned my vyper, since I thought the distortions were too brittle.

I kind of think that the Line 6 would be better for gigging because it's easier to change. I couldn't imagine looking at all those flashing lights on the Vyper. The vyper I had seemed cheap and not durable.

And if you do gig, you will have to get a multi-pedal, since you really can't change amp settings when your playing. Line 6 has established pedals.

I wouldn't buy either of them, however, I despise LIne 6 amps. But, a lot of metal people like them.

Never buy a Vypyr amp. They're worthless and have very bad reviews in terms of quality.

Line 6 spider amps are pretty crappy too, but not as bad as the Vypyr. The Line 6 HD500 would be a good option too, although, I haven't played one yet... and I think you would have to hook it up to a computer, another amp, or a P.A. system. Line 6 POD's are good too.

The Line 6 is the better amp. It's MUCH easier to use and the effects and modeling are higher quality.

The Line 6 is an excellent amp.

From the features you revealed, the first one (Peavey) is probably less expensive to get.

But if you can afford the money and extra gadgets, you should get the second amplifier (Line 6) you listed.
