I'm looking to balance affordability with quality when it comes to a PA Setup. The quality is most important but I don't need Top of the line. My band and I are beginning to play a lot more outside gigs with bigger crowds. I've got some ideas but I just can't make up my mind.
These two mixers fit our needs as far as functionality but I don't have experience with either brand. They both sound good but which one will perform the best in all aspects?

Un-powered Mixers:
Peavey PV14 USB 14 Channel
Yamaha MG166C-USB 16 Channel

I also need suggestions for Powered Speakers. - no sub needed - I prefer 12''-15'' and pretty powerful.

Thanks!!

I much prefer a powered mixer and non powered speakers. Non powered speakers are much lighter and more versatile. For a gigging band you should have a pair of speakers with a 15" speaker and a horn in each cab. By using speaker stands you can get much better projection from them. Non powered speakers are also easier to put up on stands. If you want a very high quality system at a low price then checkout the Behringer systems. They make a great powered board with plenty of inputs and flexible routing with great effects built in. This, combined with a pair of their 15"/horn cabs and you have a great system. Musicians friend has a great deal on the whole system with stands and mics. If you still prefer the powered speaker/unpowered mixer version, they make them too!

I've been using the older Yamaha MG16 for a couple of years now & never had any problems. Channel 13/14 & 15/16 only take stereo inputs, which is wierd, but maybe they've changed that. The separate power supply can be a pain, & the AUX set up is wierd too. But sound wise it's good.

I had an old peavey mixer that was built like a tank - high school kids banged it around for years. Was real bassy - you always had to roll off some low end. Haven't used the PV14 except to listen to it at a store. I would have bought the PV14 but I got a huge discount on the discontinued Yamaha - you're good with either one.

On both of these the effects are kind of cheezy, but if all you need is a little reverb, you're all set.

I'm using Carvin LM15A speakers now - sound as good as EONs and better than Peaveys.

My criteria for a purchase order it how a lot do i like it? fashion designer products do not actually have an section on my record. promoting businesses are very, very savvy find out what makes you prefer to purchase a product. there's a lot learn performed on it that it quite is thoughts boggling. Advertisers use 3 uncomplicated truths to promote. One is that sex sells. The message is in case you purchase product x you'd be ready to get the malefemale of your selection. yet another is that absolutely everyone else has product x, and in case you do not there might want to be something incorrect with you. The very last one is in case you purchase product x, you belong in an unique crew of human beings which have product x and that circuitously makes you extra acceptable. in my opinion i do not see what's so smart about paying a fortune for an merchandise that has someones call on it when I can get the same element for far less. Why might want to I make someone i do not even understand wealthy? yet lower back to the handbag web site... save a watch on it. i'm particular there'll be those who use it. Ah properly...
