I love music I want to become a musician but is it too late?

I am 17. I can't sing and I only ever learned on Instrument and that was when I was 13 I had to stop and now I want to learn how to play guitar but my mom doesn't think I should waste my time so she won't let me buy one it just fells like unless I start now I want get anywhere

Ask yourself why you want to be a musician. Is it for the pulling power, is it because you think it is cool or is it a genuine love of music. Be prepared to work hard. Long hours sat on your own at first mastering basic techniques. it takes a lot discipline, especially at first.

I realized there is good and bad in everything, in all the types of music, and I have to appreciate everything that seems to be honest and good. People teen to stuck in what they know better being afraid of everything new and unknown and sometimes risky (with the classical music I could get more money, I could teach, I could get a position in the city council's orchestra... but with the modern no).



Taking this story as an example, the meaning is that the parents always wanna be sure about their children. The years are very difficult and sometimes they wanna be extremely protective when they are coming up to the education and the future of their children. Your mam wants only your good and she believes that playing music is a wasting time, and maybe money, especially if you are in "leaving certificate" session. You have to prove and promise that you will not spend you whole time playing music without doing your homework or any other commitments and you'll be fine, otherwise you have to wait the age of 18. Never it's too late to learn new things. The idea "only the young ages can learn" is completely wrong. The best customers of all the music schools are parents who wanna keep their kids busy, no letting them spending their times out in the streets, cause there is a lot of danger today. Please believe me I am a music teacher, I have a students different ages and some adults seem to get better faster than the naughty kids. Mind also the adults have better concentration than the young kids. The best age for voice is the age of 18-20 as well. You don't need to worry. Just carry on, fight on....

(My previous guitar teacher said she had 75 students, while the one I have now only has 33). Just because a teacher has a lot of students doesn't mean he or she is excellent at teaching. (Some students from my previous teacher quit and are now taking lessons with the teacher I have now). Strange huh? If you're REALLY serious about singing and learning how to play guitar, you won't give up searching for a good teacher (you may get lucky and get competent teachers the first time around).



Jack Johnson didn't get into music until he was in college, same with Jason Mraz; Colbie Caillat only picked up a guitar and started writing songs two years ago. Nothing's impossible.

It depends on how much natural musical sense you've born with. I loved music all my life but after 30 years of trying many things in music, finally I've realized I don't have enough musical sense in me to produce any good music. I don't know how good you can be.
