I need one to show off my voice. I kicked *** belting out "on my own" but another girl already chose it. I've got a soulful voice, but I can hit high notes if needed. It has to have been a song that was on Broadway at one point. Please no Wicked/Les Miz. My other two choices right now are "maybe this time" from cabaret and "I know where i've been" from hairspray. Both are okay, but much too slow. I've been searching for hours. Please help :)

PS: Energy! Big/amazingly pretty finish :)

Normally I would say that "Maybe This Time" from Cabaret would be a great song since songs from older musicals are overdone as the two ones you mentioned (along with Rent, Hairspray, Spring Awakening, and Phantom of the Opera). However, I believe it was a song featured on the show "Glee" not too long ago. You would think that having show tunes on "Glee" would be a good thing, but as someone who sings show tunes a great deal, I'm running into a younger audience that expect it to be sung only one way--the way they did on Glee--or I'm doing it "wrong". Dumb, huh?

Also it's up to you to put energy into a song. Even a ballad can be powerful and amazing when the singer not only sings the notes well, but pays attention to what the lyrics mean and sings with the proper feeling and interpetation.

A soulful, belt song? I don't know how soulful this is, but it is upbeat and definitely a good belt number.

Mama Who Bore Me from Spring Awakening is a good belting song, but it's kinda slow too.

My New Philosophy from You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown is upbeat and fun for belting.

Notice Me, Horton from Seussical is super cute, but there's a little guy's part in the end. If you can get a guy to do it with you, that one would be good.

I've heard solo versions though, and it fits well. Horton really only has one or two lines aside from the harmony he sings.
