Ive been wondering. since ive seen Elvis play acoustic guitar, and we all know he was at worst a "decent" guitarist, did he ever play lead guitar? particularly a solo on on an electric guitar. my mom is convinced that he played lead on some of his early songs. thanks!

I've never heard that Presley did any recorded lead solos. He relied upon Scotty Moore on his Les Paul to take care of that.

But it's possible when Elvis would kick back in privacy he may have picked out some tunes, but that's a guess on my part. He was more interested in playing rhythm for his songs.

This is Elvis playing the bass work for this hit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TztGGtygTTo

As far as guitar work went Elvis knew 3 chords on guitar and played mostly rhythm with heavy preference to the acoustic sound. With guitarist as good as Scooty Moore and James Burton there was never any need for him to have to try to take on lead. Was he a Clapton on guitar of course not but he got the job done. On all most all of his albums Elvis does some rythym on guitar, don't let people tell you different because a lot of people criticize him for not playing when he indeed did.

I think Scotty Moore was the lead guitarist on Elvis's early songs. Elvis himself only played rhythm guitar.

Playing guitar has enriched my life, and I want to help you get that same feeling by going through these guitar lessons https://tr.im/dy6bB

By the end of some lessons, you’ll be able to strum and know enough chords to play a few of your favorite songs, which will be a lot of motivation for you.

The only time he ever played lead guitar, only because he was the only one playing an instrument, was the first record he made in 1953 "My Happiness"
