i plan on getting 6-peice pdp shells, fs series, charcoal burst. then i want to add on a tama iron cobra pedal and eventually a 16" flood tom. i cant decide what cymbals to get though! im interested in mostly rock, but i want the cymbals i get to be somewhat universal. i really like the zildjian a custom hi-hat, and am trying to stick with zildjian cymbals, but are the custom a cymbals (ride, splash, crash, ect) good for rock? and does anyone know a good set of cymbals they would recommend?

All of the major cymbal companies make cheap and expensive cymbals, so buying one specific brand doesn't mean you're getting a good cymbal. Zildjian A's or Sabian AA or HH are some of the best sounding cymbals you can buy. There really aren't specific cymbals for rock, metal, country, etc. Even though there are "rock crashes" that doesn't mean they can't be used in other types of music. Basically a rock crash is just a heavy crash. The thing to understand is that heavy crash cymbals decay slower so the crash will last longer. I personally don't care for heavy cymbals for any type of music. I prefer medium and medium-thin in crash cymbals. I think a 16" medium and 18" medium-thin are must have cymbals for any drummer and then add whatever else you'd like. In a splash don't go below 10" and 12" sounds even better to me. With rides it's just a matter of taste. I usually go for a medium ride 20" to 22". Good luck.

Zildjian cymbals are excellent for rock.

However, they are also very expensive, and the first time you take a bite out of a big ride you'll be moaning at how much it'll cost to replace.

Get Paistes...they are a bunch less expensive.
