I am in the Guinness Book of World Records - as part of a group. In 2009, there were over 2,000 of us that played in the world's largest flute quartet, in NYC, under the direction of Sir James Galway, in NYC. Big deal. We signed affidavits swearing that we were, in truth, flutists and actually were playing, and the Guinness people counted heads, live and in the various photos. I have a photo over my desk. What did we get? NADA. Bragging rights. A picture in which you cannot find me unless you use a magnifying glass. And some fun.

If you do something solo, and you can turn your future appearances into some kind of money-maker, then that MIGHT be different - but not likely. The next year, somebody will break your record anyway.

The ONLY THING you win is BRAGGING RIGHTS.. Guinness NEVER HAS and NEVER WILL actually PAY anyone for getting a world record.. It's something that started at a time when people did things for FUN and didn't think they should be PAID for everything they do.

You win a whole bucket of pride. Guinness doesn't dole out cash prizes to people who do these things.
