AP Music Theory Questions?

I have a very little basic and small knowledge in music (mostly from playing piano).
And I'm taking AP Music Theory next week.

I'm gonna read "The Complete Idiots Guide To Music Theory", but I want to know what the class is like and what I can do to get caught up and pass the course successfully.

I agree pay attention. that is important. ask for help if you need it. just go over the note names on the staff, what a triad is (your a piano player, slight advantage). Go over scales and key signatures, the number of sharps and flats each one has. The class is not going to automatically start off in 12 tone serialism. You will be fine.

There is no one single answer to this.. each teacher has their own way.



When I took music theory and harmony years ago in College, a requirement was to be able to PLAY THE PIANO so we would have to improvise songs in different keys.. the teacher would play a song in what he called "SKELETON KEY" and we had to write it out on staff paper.



Today, I'm sure it's a much easier course because most kids today almost totally lack talent of any kind when it comes to music anything.
