Hi Adam

Some people are asleep at the wheel sometimes. Both are good guitar but to say that Martin is garbage shows the knowledge of some of these guitar players. NONE.

Martin guitars come with a limited lifetime warranty and YES, they will respect it even if you have a crack 10 years down the line. Now that is what I call Warranty.

Also, Martin is the only guitar that do not use a Truss rod because they knwo they necks are straight and will stay straight. So no fiddling with any truss rod or fret adjustment.

Lastly, your money is guaranteed when you buy on line. Just pay with Paypal or a credit card and if not satisfied, your money is safe and secure.

You might want to check Canadian guitars made by Godin and Larivee. Because Canada have their own lumber yards, the quality of the wood and the manufactured guitar are top notch. Also, with your exchange, you can get a 30% discount and also, yiou can wheel and deal with canadian stores or manufactures.

Here are the links if interested and well worth looking at these 2 guitars. They are sold and reputable worldwide.

These 2 guitars are hand-crafted to perfection with a darn good warranty.

You have picked the very best of the best and I am sure he would be absolutely ecstatic about any of them! the martin is the best bet in terms of retaining value and appreciating in price but I would advise the first one not the cut away and with a standard finish, no colors (black usually) as these retain their value much longer than non standard models. The ultimate martin is the D18 wich is considered to be their best guitar ever. Look around and check with dealers and ebay to try and find one. But if you do, don't be offended when he spends his honeymoon playing it more than you!! LOL!

Go for the Martin DCX1E it's definitely the coolest choice, he'll surely love it and rock on it for years

Order both and send one back after you have tried them out side by side.

I own a martin d35. it's a 1972 model. I've had it since feb 1987. honestly I have played on many, many guitars. some sounded really good. but, I can say without doubt. that I have never played a better sounding guitar.

I recommend getting neither one. I've played both and I don't like either one. The Martin DX1 is a plywood dreadnought with a dull tone. The Taylor Big Baby is less than full size with a less than full size tone.

I recommend the Taylor 214, 312, or 314, the Martin 000-16GT, or one of the Larrivee -03 series like the OM-03 or the L-03. Any of these are far superior to the two you listed. Good luck.

i have never owned either guitar. I have played them in the guitar center. In my opinion, Martin has a better sound. Martin has a bigger selection and a wider variety of prices to choose from. Hope this is helpful, good luck

I own a Taylor and the quality is second to none...and its beautiful as well. I've played both over the years but ever since I played a Taylor I have wanted one...They are (to me anyway) one of the sweetest sounding guitars made....

Mine is a 614CE.

If your not going to hold the guitar I strongly suggest the Taylor. Nobody matches Talyor's consistancy. The best brands can make lemons. You really don't know until you've held the guitar itself. Taylor though I've never held a bad Taylor. Own one myself.

As for sound and such. I was in an acoustic outfit for a couple years doing Folk music. The other guitarist played a Martin, I played a Taylor. Both were excellent guitars. The Taylor had a deeper more resonent sound. It was also louder. The Martin had a rich but lighter sound. The 2 guitars blended together was a sound from heaven. It was also easy to mix as both guitars had a signature sound that let each shine through without drowning the other out since they were stronger on different frequencies.

The Martin probably had better playability past the 12th fret and slightly easier action given that it was a smaller guitar than my Taylor. That likely also was part of the better volume for the Taylor.

What I do suggest is if possible even though you are buying online play both at a local music store if possible. If not I really suggest the Taylor. It's going to be a good guitar almost for certain. Martin is a good brand and makes far fewer lemons than other brands but I've picked up Martins that were not worth owning at any price even while they were brand new. Manufacturing defects, or just a balky spirit can kill off a guitar. The Taylor is also going to be more durable. Mine's been torture tested played in all sorts of weather, played live in gigs, dragged all over the place, survived children. It's a nearly indestructable guitar.

Personally, I would always lean towards the Martin. But honestly, you should never make a purchase of that size without actually getting to hear them for yourself beforehand. If you can, I would strongly suggest you visit your nearest guitar shop and test them out for yourself and THEN order the one you want online. It's a lot better than taking advice from us strangers!
