I want to go and see Gilbert and Sullivan: The Pirates of Penzance, but I don't know what the dress code is and I don't want to seem like a noob by asking the theatre.

I will be in the grand circle.

I live in the UK in case that makes a difference

Well, it's not necessary to go black tie, but you do want to dress nicely.

Slacks and a blazer would be casual enough. Or a nice suit and tie. Just no blue jeans and T-shirt. That would be a bit too casual, but I'd guess that even a nice pair of Khakis and a nice collared shirt and casual dress shoes would be OK.

You want to look nice, but you don't have to be a "toff"

Only on an opening night for a "classic" opera of the "fancy" kind, would you almost want to be black- tie or fancy suit adorned.

Pirates of Penzance is a comedic opera, so a less formal dress code is appropriate.

i think of that night opera remains an extremely formal affair. night symphony is one notch down from that. actual men will choose to positioned on a in wonderful condition and tie and minimum, women a gown or long gown and a wrap of a few form. There are functional concerns to attend to inspite of the undeniable fact that. in case you at the instant are not arriving with shrink-facet drop off via a limo or maybe close to via parking on your guy or woman motor vehicle. The walk from public transit desires to be taken under consideration. My community wisdom is with the San Francisco symphony (Davies corridor), The SF opera on the conflict memorial opera abode around the line. they seem to be a honest distance from the Civic midsection BART station. The Oakland Symphony ... hmmm do no longer understand which station is closes, that one is in all probability appropriate a tension to the theater and detect a parking storage interior of reach affair. Heel's are going to be painful in case you at the instant are not used to strolling in them all of the time. So shoes could be greater effective. solutions that I gave have been for Afternoon concert activities, nonetheless dressy, yet greater casual than night positioned on ... college uniforms could be o.k. for a morning/early afternoon "scholar creation to the symphony" overall performance. it somewhat is greater question/answer consultation with track than a stay overall performance. the different answer became for a scholar attending the Alabama Symphony appearing on the college of Alabama, Birmingham. Even there, I reported dressed up is the order of the day (night). i won't be able to say that i've got seen all and sundry in a tuxedo (minimize-away coat with satin lapels, cummerbund, trousers with matching satin , and a bow tie) in a whilst. ... yet i don't get out a lot.
