By most player's standards, the 'best' in your budget price range will be okay for starter and intermediate, but only a few models to choose from when it comes to solid top acoustic/electrics.
At that price range.
For good (enough) quality, playing comfort and performance (tuning, resonance, tone and expression) here is THE list: Art & Lutherie; Alvarez; Cort; Dean; Epiphone; Ibanez; Jasmine (Takamine); Johnson; Lag ($$); Micheal Kelly; Norman; Seagull; Walden; Washburn and Yamaha.
You certainly have to go try them out first hand to discover what you will get, and come to realize the differences in each models features and comparing how they feel and sound. You will then understand why the price ranges are set according to their quality, and expressions, of what you expect from any guitar in question.
But expect to pay from $125 - $500 (really) for your first guitar, especially one that includes a solid top (which would start around $200.00) as its main feature.
Look for a basic dreadnought of your choice without the electronics, and determine if you really need an acoustic/electric. Then just then ask about the same model's version that has the electronics installed in that series, model line. A blend of what you are really after.
This way you wil be getting a model of that particular brand that will do just as well for you when not having to depend upon amplification to play well as your main guitar.
And, be satisfied with in what you will have as a versatile instrument for many years to come.
