And I will take recommendations for a different violin in the same price range if people are willing to give them.

For a beginner, its not that bad. Better to start on a cheap violin and see if you will like it before throwing in a couple of hundred dollars and ending up not liking it. I started with a $75 guitar and jumped to a higher end model after 6 months.

No, it is not a good violin, it is just a cheap violin made with a plastic (fiber) body. There are some good carbon fiber violins but they will be in the thousands. In the lower student grade instruments, you need to go with traditional wood instruments and not painted ones like black, pink, blue or whatever because those are some of the worst instruments. It is best to go to a violin shop and not buy from some internet discount site, because they don 't have a reputation to uphold and will sell anything. A brick and mortar violin shop will only sell quality instruments that are set up properly with quality parts that won't fail in the first few months. Generally nothing below around $250 US will be worth purchasing. Since no two violins of the same brand/model will sound the same, a referral for a specific brand is kind of useless.

Absolutely not. You must spend something upwards of 300$ at least to get a good violin. Since you are a beginner, I wouldn't really recommend getting a 50,000$ violin right now, of course (maybe later :)

Try Shar Music...they have many lovely violins.

If you want something rather modern, you can also get an electric violin, but a good electric violin tends to be much, much more expensive than a normal wooden violin.

Good instrument countries (of course, depending on the manufacturer) are Germany, Italy, France, and China. I have a Chinese-made violin, and it is very beautiful with a rich, deep sound...

But I do want to say this....

Buy a violin based on the sound, not on the color. People will be listening to you play, and more likely not admiring your violin..

And the other comment is excellent..I totally agree with him.
