I've had my eye set on a randall RX120RH half stack, but looking at the best sellers list for a more FX-y half stack this caught my eye at the price of $650
Looking at it, it's looks to good to be true effect wise.
Stacked with effects, preset effects from artists and songs,a looper, manual mode, and along with another product it can be updated from the line 6 website.
Line 6 seems to go all out with different tones in this half stack.
But does it produce good sound? And is it a good buy for a touring half stack or to put in the studio?
Because i never had the chance to play it, and it could be just 5000 different ways to get a bad sound, it could be just a pile with a bunch of sprinkles on it, if you catch my drift.

A lot of people like to knock the line 6 amps but they are among the best selling amps in the world. Part of the reason is because they offer a lot for the money. Some dismiss them as sounding bad or thin, but I have heard many players use them very effectively. As with any equipment, if it is used by someone who understands how to get good sound from it then it is considered to be good. However, if someone who has no clue how to use it complains that it sounds bad, then you have to wonder if it is the amp or the guy trying to use it?

The best thing to do is to test drive before you buy.

Personally, I am a big fan of Hughes & Kettner amps. I own the switchblade head and I run it through a Marshall stack (cabinets). It is an all tube amp with built in effects and MIDI control with 128 storable memory locations. It is like having a 128 channel tube amp with great effects built in! It is a bit pricey though, but you get what you pay for.

You need to play it - you are wise to be skeptical, there's no free lunch when it comes to your tone.

5000 ways to get a bad sound is exactly how a lot of players describe Line6 modeling amps. A cheap imitation of the originals. I've yet to hear one i thought was convincing. The tube spiders are the best, but they're also almost as expensive as something like a mesa boogie and I'd rather have the Mesa by a mile.

OTOH - Randalls are designed by Don Randall, who was the original designer of all the early Fender amps. They cost what they cost for a reason. Hope that helps.
